New AMATO leadership presents trucks rescue team, seeks stronger collaboration with port police

The leadership of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) has presented its newly inaugurated State Executive Committee and operational Trucks Rescue Team to the Ports Authority Police ( Western) Command, while calling for stronger collaboration to enhance safety and efficiency within the port environment.

The Port Police Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja received the delegation led by Chief Remi Ogungbemi in Apapa on Thursday.

Speaking during the visit, the leadership of the association expressed appreciation to the port police command for its continuous efforts in maintaining security and orderliness within the port environment and along major logistics corridors.

The new State Chairman of AMATO, Alh. Saro Ahmed stated that the new executive committee is committed to promoting professionalism, discipline, and stronger collaboration among truck operators in the maritime sector.

The association also formally presented its Trucks Rescue Team, established to provide rapid support and emergency response to broken down or distressed trucks operating within and around port access roads.

According to the association, the initiative is aimed at reducing traffic obstruction, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing safety within the port corridors.

In her remarks, CP Agbaminoja commended the association for the initiative, stressing the importance of stakeholder collaboration in sustaining security, safety, and seamless movement within the nation’s ports and adjoining transport corridors.

She further urged the newly inaugurated executives and members of the rescue team to operate within the ambit of the law and maintain close synergy with security agencies while discharging their responsibilities.

The police commissioner also reiterated the command’s commitment to supporting lawful initiatives that would positively impact port operations, public safety, and the economic growth of the maritime sector.

The meeting ended with discussions on strengthening collaboration between the police and maritime transport stakeholders towards ensuring a safer and more efficient port environment.
