Tin Can Customs generates N111. 2bn revenue in May as Anani pledges compliance, media partnership

The Controller, Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Joseph Anani, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening compliance, enhancing trade facilitation, and deepening collaboration with the media as part of efforts to improve the Command’s operational efficiency.

Speaking during his maiden engagement with journalists at the command on Wednesday, Anani disclosed that the Command generated N111.27 billion revenue in May 2026.

He attributed the performance to improved compliance levels, enhanced operational efficiency and the dedication of officers. adding that the Command would consolidate on the gains and strive to surpass previous records.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Command is currently performing commendably in the area of revenue generation with a collection of N111,270,357,236.25 in May 2026.

“This positive trajectory is a reflection of the dedication of our officers, improved compliance levels, and enhanced operational efficiency. We intend to consolidate on these gains and, indeed, strive to surpass previous achievements under the preceding administration, ” he said.

Anani noted that engagement with critical stakeholders remains a key priority of his administration, describing the media as one of the most vital partners in the industry.

According to him, the engagement marked an important step in the Command’s deliberate effort to build stronger bridges of understanding and cooperation with the media as a strategic partner in shaping public understanding, promoting accountability, and enhancing compliance within the system.

“Your reportage significantly influences public perception of our activities, and by extension, the effectiveness of our mandate.

“In this regard, I want to clearly state that the press will play a vital role in this administration. You will be fully carried along in our policies, operations, reforms, and achievements. We are committed to ensuring timely, accurate, and transparent flow of information to enable you perform your duties effectively, ” he said.

Anani stated that the Command would continue to leverage the ongoing modernization drive of the Nigeria Customs Service by strengthening systems, processes and technology-driven solutions aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and facilitating legitimate trade.

He stressed that compliance with the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 would remain at the core of the Command’s operations.

“In line with our new mandate, this administration will uphold total compliance with all applicable laws and regulations as enshrined in the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023. Compliance will be at the heart of our operations, and we will continue to enforce the law firmly, fairly and professionally,” he said.

The CAC further pledged to support capacity development for maritime journalists through structured training programmes, sensitisation workshops and other initiatives designed to improve understanding of Customs activities.

The Controller, however, urged media practitioners to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their reportage, stressing that responsible journalism is essential to preventing misinformation and maintaining public trust.

Anani also expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment to lead the strategic Command.

He commended Adeniyi’s leadership and reform initiatives aimed at repositioning the Service for greater efficiency and global competitiveness.

The Customs boss reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining an open-door policy and fostering constructive engagement with stakeholders to support national economic growth, trade facilitation and revenue generation.

“Together, we can ensure that Tin Can Island Port Command continues to play its critical role in national growth, trade facilitation and revenue generation,” he added.
