The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has honoured two of its distinguished professionals, Prince Gbadamosi Hakeem and Captain Shakirudeen Lamidi, for their contributions to the development and safety of water transportation in Lagos State.
The two retirees bowed out of active service after completing the statutory 35 years of meritorious service in the Lagos State Civil Service.
Prince Hakeem, who served as a Marine Operations Supervisor, was recognised for his role in ensuring the maintenance, deployment and operational readiness of LASWA’s fleet of boats.
Popularly known as “Number 1” among his team members, Hakeem supervised daily fleet operations as well as LASWA captains and deckhands across the state’s waterways, contributing to improved operational standards and safety compliance.
LASWA said his professionalism, commitment to excellence and mentorship helped nurture a new generation of boat captains and marine personnel.
Hakeem began his public service career with the defunct Lagos State Ferry Corporation before joining LASWA, where he brought decades of experience and institutional knowledge to the Authority and the wider maritime sector.
Similarly, Captain Lamidi was honoured for his decades of service and contribution to water transportation and waterways safety in Lagos State.
A seasoned mariner and senior boat captain, Lamidi commenced his career with the Lagos State Ferry Corporation and later joined LASWA in 2008.
During his service, he demonstrated professionalism, navigational expertise and dedication to waterways safety, earning the respect of colleagues, passengers and other stakeholders.
LASWA also acknowledged Lamidi’s role as a mentor to younger captains, noting that his deep knowledge of Lagos waterways helped preserve and transfer critical maritime knowledge to the next generation.
The Authority said the contributions of the two retirees had helped shape its operations and the development of water transportation in Lagos State.
It expressed appreciation to Hakeem and Lamidi for their years of dedicated service and wished them good health, happiness and fulfilment in retirement.
