The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, Lagos, has confirmed a fire incident at its premises in Apapa, saying no life was lost and no injury was recorded.
The incident occurred at about 10:35 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, when a fire outbreak was detected in some offices within the Command’s premises, a statement issued by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, said.
According to the statement, officers on duty immediately activated emergency response protocols and took steps to contain the fire.
Chibunna said the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at about 11:25 a.m. and successfully brought the fire under control.
“Upon preliminary assessment, it was established that the fire affected some property and office equipment within the Command premises, with thick smoke initially noticed emanating from the newly constructed conference hall, ” the statement said.
The Command however, stressed that no loss of life or injury was recorded in the incident.
The Command commended its officers and personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for their prompt response, assuring stakeholders that its core operations remain unaffected and continue as normal.
It added that a committee had been constituted to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire and make recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
The Command further assured that necessary measures would be taken to safeguard its personnel and infrastructure, while reaffirming its commitment to maintaining safety, security and operational efficiency across its formations.
