Buhari to inspect Lekki port, commission Dangote fertilizer plant Tuesday

Buhari: Nigeria’s Free Trade Zones attracted $30bn in investments, rise to 46

Barring any last-minute change, President Muhammed Buhari is expected to arrive Lagos, Tuesday to commission the Dangote fertilizer plant and also inspect ongoing construction work at the Lekki deep seaport.

The Governor of Lagos State, ministers, heads of government agencies and other dignitaries are expected at the event.

The Dangote Fertiliser Plant is Africa’s largest granulated urea fertiliser complex sitting on 500 hectares of land in Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos Nigeria. It was built at a cost of $2.5billion.

The Fertilizer plant, which currently pushes out a minimum of 120 trucks per day across the country, is expected to manufacture three million metric tonnes of urea per annum and generate $400 million annual foreign exchange from export to African countries.

Construction work on the Lekki deep seaport, which is currently at 85 percent completion, is expected to contribute about $360 billion to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in the next 45 years.

According to the promoters of the project, commercial activities at the seaport will commence in September this year.
