Seme Customs intercepts 10 tanker loads of smuggled petrol in Lagos

 The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service said it intercepted 10, 865 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) of 30 litres each equivalent to 10 tanker loads of 33000 litres with a Duty Paid Value DPV of N65.6 million along various creeks around Badagry and Seme border.

The Command also seized 139 cartons of expired soft drinks, 100 cartons of gabadol/tramadol of 120mg, 2.8kg and 306 parcels of cannabis sativa.

Others are 132 packets of tramadol capsules, 86 pieces of Apetamin syrup, 302 pieces of dynewell syrup, 50 pieces of baba yellow syrup, three sachets of rofhymol, 32 bottles of cough syrup and 99 cartons of fearless energy drink with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1.481billion.

Customs Area Controller of the Command, Controller Muhammed Bello Jibo while showcasing the seizures said they were intercepted between January and June 7, 2022.

He said the continuous surveillance of the beaches and creeks by operatives of the command recorded another huge interception of 1,600 jerry cans of petroleum product of 30 litres each in the late hours of Tuesday 7 June 2022 along Seme-Badagry waterways with a DPV of N11.6million.

According to him, the commitment and re-dedication of officers and men of the command in the fight against smuggling especially that of the petroleum products contributed to the successes so far achieved.

He said in line with extant laws, the seized petroleum product will be auction in line with standard operating procedure of perishable items while the illicit drugs will be handed over to the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.

He said, “In our quest to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians, most especially the fight against drug trafficking, today, the Command is handing over the seized drugs to both NDLEA and NAFDAC.

“Sequel to the approval granted by the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ibrahim Ali (rtd), and in line with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and equally in the spirit of inter-agency cooperation and synergy, the items are handed over to National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.

“At this juncture, may I appreciate the contributions of our stakeholders, the host communities, other security agencies and our media friends for their unflinching support towards the successes so far achieved.

“I thank the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service Col.
