Customs mourn as fire claims lives of officer, wife, four children in Osun

The Oyo/ Osun command of the Nigeria Customs Service was thrown into mourning on Monday as a devastating fire incident claimed the lives of Superintendent of Customs (SC) Kabiru Tijani, his wife, and four children at their residence in Ede, Osun State.

A statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Kayode Wey said the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at 3:00am.

Controller of the command, Dr Ben Oramalugo, commiserated with the family and friends of the deceased, appreciating the prayers and support from the public.

He described SC Kabiru Tijani as a dedicated officer who served as the Officer in Charge of Operations at the Command until his untimely demise.

“His unwavering commitment to duty, particularly in coordinating and executing successful anti-smuggling operations, greatly contributed to the success of the Command.

“His wife, an active member of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Oyo/Osun Chapter, was equally admired for her contributions to the welfare of the Customs community,”

Meanwhile, the Command has urged the public to disregard speculative reports regarding the inferno, as their priority remains to support the bereaved extended family and the lone child survivor as well as investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

“In the wake of this incident, the Oyo/Osun Area Command wishes to address speculative reports regarding the inferno.

“We urge the public to disregard such unfounded reports as our priority remains to provide support to the bereaved extended family, the lone child survivor and to further investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal incident, ” the statement said.

SC Kabiru Tijani and his family have since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
