Eid el-Fitr: MWUN PG salutes Muslims, preaches love

The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has extended his felicitations to the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, urging faithful to emulate the life of love led by Prophet Mohammed.

In a statement marking the end of the 30-day Ramadan fast, Comrade Bunu admonished the faithful to demonstrate the true significance of the season through their actions.

He noted that the celebration must not be taken for granted, as it represents a period of purity and deep communion with the Almighty Allah.

The MWUN leader emphasized that true faith is incomplete without the ability to coexist peacefully with others, regardless of their religious leanings.

“Faith in the Almighty Allah will be incomplete if, as Muslims, we cannot cohabit with our brothers and sisters of other faiths and religions,” Bunu stated. “We must remind ourselves that we are from one Creator of the Universe; hence, we all must accord each other the necessary mutual respect. Until we recognize this simple truth, peace will be difficult to come by.”

Addressing the security challenges facing the nation, the President-General called on those “tormenting humanity” in the North East and other regions of Nigeria to lay down their arms.

He reminded them that the core philosophy of Islam, as propagated by Prophet Mohammed, is rooted in the principles of love and peace.

Comrade Bunu concluded by saluting the global Muslim community and advocating for a crime-free society during and after the holy religious celebration.

The statement was issued by the Union’s Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna.
