The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has announced the launch of the Omibus water transportation pilot operations in the Lagos metropolis.
The pilot program, powered by the Ministry of Transport and LASWA, commenced today, Monday July 29th and will run for a week, a statement by LASWA said.
The statement added that during the pilot phase, Omibus ferries will operate on select routes, including Ikorodu to Ebute Ero to CMS, Ikorodu to V.I (Addax) to Falomo, and Badore to V.I (Addax) to Falomo.
The ferries will depart at 7:00 AM, 4:30 PM and 5:30PM respectively, and passengers will be required to use their Cowry cards to board.
According to the pilot program schedule,
“Morning Trips: Ikorodu – Ebute Ero – CMS: 7:00 AM departure from Ikorodu
Ikorodu – V.I (Addax) – Falomo: 7:00 AM departure from Ikorodu.
Badore – V.I (Addax) – Falomo: 7:00 AM departure from Badore.E
“Evening Trips: CMS – Ikorodu: 4:30 PM departure from CMS.
Falomo – Ikorodu: 5:30 PM departure from Falomo.
Falomo – Badore: 5:30 PM departure from Falomo.
The Omibus pilot program aims to collect essential data and increase public awareness about the future of waterway transportation in Lagos.
The ferries are designed to international safety standards, offering a comfortable and secure journey.
“Our ferries are internationally recognized for safety and quality, providing a top-notch travel experience. Join us on this journey towards a better, congestion-free Lagos, ” the statement said.
LASWA encouraged the public to participate in the pilot program and provide feedback to refine the service for the full launch.
This initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to reduce congestion and promote a better, more sustainable transportation system in Lagos.
