The Kano State High Court has convicted and sentenced a man, Ado Abubakar, to seven years’ imprisonment for a job scam.
Ado was alleged to have induced one Ibrahim Balanti to make payment into his account by promising to get him enlisted into the Nigeria Customs Service.
He claimed that he had a customs officer friend who was purportedly given slots to fill at the service
The complainant was said to have paid the sum of N330,000 out of the N530,000 Ado demanded in the hope of securing the appointment.
When the job offer was not forthcoming, he realised that he had been duped and demanded a refund of his money, to no avail.
A statement by the Head of Media and Publicity, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspect was arraigned for obtaining under false pretences.
The defendant pleaded guilty as Justice Maaji sentenced him to seven years’ imprisonment without any option of fine.
He was also ordered to return the sum of N330,000 to the complainant.
