MWUN dismisses alleged feud with Shippers’ Council, assures of sustained collaboration

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and its leadership has denied misconceptions making the rounds in regards to the relationship between the Union and the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) purportedly reported as sour.

President General of the Union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, in a statement on Thursday, said the union, which is reputed for dialogue, has enjoyed a very cordial relationship with the Council over the years.

He said the visit of the leadership of the Union to the NSC headquarters recently to deliberate on issues that will be of mutual benefit to its members and other port users is a proof of the cordial working relation with the Council, just as he assured of the Union’s continued collaboration with the NSC.

The statement reads, “We have been reliably informed of certain misconceptions making the rounds in regards to the relationship between the Union – MWUN and the Nigeria Shippers Council purportedly reported as sour.

“We want to state that the above position is far from true as indeed, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria and the Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC) have and enjoy a very cordial working relationship. As part of this synergy the leadership of MWUN and NSC met as recently as yesterday December 15″ 2021 at NSC Headquarters to deliberate on issues that will be of mutual benefit to our members and other port users.

“As a union reputed for dialogue and openness, we have a history of good working relationship with the past administration of the NSC which we do not intend to change. In this wise we reiterate our enormous respect and regard for the NSC Executive Secretary Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Emmanuel Lyambee Jime and affirm our resolve as usual to continue our collaboration and support for this NSC administration with the view of taking the industry to loftier heights:

“We hope this puts to rest speculations by the general public that MWUN & NSC have a frayed relationship.”
