The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has officially lifted ban on campaigns for elective national positions in its upcoming National Delegates Conference.
A notice issued to all prospective national office seekers by Secretary General of MWUN, Comrade Felix Akingboye said the decision follows the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on December 20, 2024.
Consequently, the union announced that it has scheduled March 28, 2025, for the National Delegates Conference to be held in Lagos.
“Elective national post seekers can now commence campaign effective from January 6, 2025 to 6:00 p.m. on March 25, 2025, when campaign shall no longer be allowed,” the notice reads.
The union emphasized that campaigns of calumny and offensive posters will not allowed, warning that defaulters would be disqualified.
“The posts to be contested for are listed in Rule 7c (ii) of the union’s constitution. Prospective candidates are urged to adhere strictly to the provisions of Rule 7c, iii a, b & c, to avoid disqualification.
“Collection of nomination forms from the office of the Deputy Secretary General, Training/Research, shall commence Monday, February 3, 2025,and submission of duly completed forms in compliance with the Constitution shall not be later than 6:00 p.m.on Monday, March 3, 2025,” the notice reads.
