The Maritme Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by President General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi has mourned the recent passing of labour activist, Comrade Abiodun Aremu.
Comrade Aremu was the founding Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF) and Chairman, Labour Service Coalition (LASCO) platforms, where he showcased his labour activism that solidified the presence of the contemporary labour movements in Nigeria, Africa and the global world.
In a statement issued by MWUN Head of Media, Comrade John Ikemefuna, MWUN recognized Aremu’s radicalism and realism in positioning and repositioning the organized labour in Nigeria.
“He was also a pioneer convener of the Action For Democracy (ADC) a political movement; where he was a key figure; and great contributor.
“He was an embodiment of Labour, a born labour warrior, no doubt; hence, his labour ideology and philosophy would definitely remain indelible in the sands of time for generations yet unborn.
“The Nigerian labour community and the global world will fondly miss this Nigerian but Kwara born talented activist for his radicalism and realism in positioning and repositioning the organized labour in Nigeria. Aremuu instincts had never failed him in labour matters, hence, the Maritme Workers Union of Nigeria recognizes him as the embodiment of labour put together.”
Comrade Bunu described Aremu as one distinguished labour technocrat, whose ideals on coordinating labour movements would be difficult to replace.
“The vacuum Aremuu has created for us in the labour industry would forever live with us.
He added that the Maritme Workers Union of Nigeria will continue to remember the passage of the labour icon, given his impeccable input to the labour movement in Nigeria.
The MWUN President General and his national executives extended their heartfelt condolences to Comrade Aremu’s family, the government, and the people of Kwara State, praying for eternal rest for the deceased and fortitude for his loved ones to bear the irreparable loss.
