As Nigeria ushers in the year 2026, the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has lauded the resilience of the Nigerians, describing them as some of the strongest people in the world for weathering the severe socio-economic storms of the past year.
In a New Year message, President General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their endurance in the face of insecurity, unemployment, and the skyrocketing cost of living that defined 2025.
The maritime labour leader noted that the survival of the citizenry amid such ravaging pressure was only possible through a unique blend of faith, hope, and comportment, which has been the characteristics of Nigerans at any difficult situation.
Describing Nigerians as global models of strength, the MWUN PG encouraged the public to maintain their steadfastness, praying that the hardships of 2025 would transform into “success stories and manifestations of joy” in 2026.
He urged the Federal Government to urgently address the plights of the masses, insisting that the Renewed Hope Agendanof President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, must move beyond rhetoric and reflect in the daily lives of the people.
“Nigerians have suffered so much lack in the years past. The Renewed Hope Agenda must begin to reflect on Nigerians as we sail into 2026. This is the only way our countrymen can be compensated for the daily tears of hardship they have suffered in diverse dimensions, ” he said
He further warned the government not to mistake the “thick skin” and patience of Nigerians for weakness, cautioning against taking the citizens’ survival instincts for granted.
Concluding his message, Comrade Bunu reminded the nation that Nigeria remains the only home for its citizens. He called for a collective effort to build a better country where peace, unity, and faith can thrive.
“We must all join hands together to make Nigerians and Nigeria better in the years ahead so that in peace, unity, and faith, we can conquer our fears of living in harmony,” he said, wishing the nation a prosperous New Year.
