The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria ( MWUN) has suspended it’s planned strike action scheduled to begin tomorrow, Tuesday 9th January, 2024.
The Union had last week threatened to
shut down all the nations seaports, jetties, and oil & gas platforms; over the continued refusal of the International Oil Companies (IOCs) and Stevedoring Contractors to comply with the Stevedoring extant laws.
However, in a post on it’s official X handle, the NPA said the union withdrew the strike after an emergency meeting convened earlier today by the Managing Director of NPA, Muhammed Bello- Koko between the union and Marginal Field Operators of the Oil and Gas Industry.
According to the NPA, the meeting resulted in the signing of a communiqué to resolve the workers grievances and the suspension of the planned strike action.
Part of the post reads, “The Managing Director @MohdBelloKoko, alongside the Executive Director Engineering & Technical Services, Engr. Ibrahim Abba; Adedapo Segun, Executive Vice President DownStream @nnpclimited; Prince Adewale Adenyanju, Deputy President, Nigerian Labour Congress/President-General Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN); Charles Okaga, Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex; and Comrade Ifeanyi Mazeli, President MWUN-NPA Branch earlier today during the emergency meeting convened by the MD/CEO @nigerianports to broker peace between the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria and Marginal Field Operators of the Oil and Gas Industry over non-compliance with Stevedoring Regulations.
