Overtime cargo: Ikorodu warehouse not congested, can accommodate 9,000 containers- Customs

Zonal Coordinator in charge of Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Modupe Aremu has said that the Ikorodu government warehouse is not congested and can accommodate 9 000 containers and other goods.

The Zonal Coordinator stated this following reports in a section of the media indicating that the facility is filled to the brim, and therefore can no longer be readily available for deposition of overtime/seized goods.

But speaking during a working visit to the government warehouse for an on-the-spot assessment of the general conditions of the warehouse, Aremu said that the report is false.

According to a statement by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, CSC Uche Ejesieme, “In the course of the visit, the ACG took time to inspect all the goods domiciled in the facility, had engagement with the critical stakeholders, including the security and regulatory agencies on ways to ensure sanity and security of the facility.

:It also provided an opportunity for a true assessment of the space in the facility contrary to the opinion advertised in the media, which suggests that the facility is overcrowded/ congested.

“The facility can comfortably accommodate about 9000 containers and other general goods.

“The ACG was received by officer in charge, A.C. William Akpabio, who led other officers and stakeholders on the working tour.

“Feeling quite elated at the conduct of the officer/men, the ACG charged them to ensure transparency and professionalism in discharge of their duties, to enable the service accomplish its mission and vision.”
