The Management of Ports & Terminal Multi services Limited (PTML) TinCan Island Port, Apapa has made payment of wages and benefits to 74 aged disengaged dockworkers and the next of kin of 10 deceased dockworkers, totaling 84 beneficiaries.
The payment exercise was supervised by Vice President General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Bello Abubakar who represented the President -General; President, Dockworkers Branch, Comrade Ibrahim Ohize, and other officials of the Union.
Comrade Adeyanju noted that since inception of the terminal, this is the first time PTML has fully applied the minimum salary standard (NJIC) and even surpassed the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) recommendations for the payment of dockworkers retirees in its terminal.
He urged other terminals to emulate PTML’s leadership in prioritizing the welfare of their dockworkers by paying their entitlements in full.
Adeyanju praised PTML’s management for taking such bold step to putting smiles on the faces of both the aged retirees and the families of the deceased.
