The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS) has arrested two officers, Superintendent of Customs TA Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II GO Aboribo over misconduct and maltreatment of some individuals.
Controller of the command, Comptroller Kayode Kolade who paraded the officers during a press briefing on Tuesday said the two erring officers will be handed over to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation.
Represented by Deputy Comptroller in charge of Enforcement, Istifanus Musa, Kolade said the behavior of the officers does not reflect the professional practice of the service.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Two (2) officers, namely, Superintendent of Customs TA Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II GO Aboribo, have been identified and arrested.
“The behavior of these officers does not reflect the professional practice of the service, especially now that the Service is committed to holding its officers to the highest standard of Integrity and professionalism, ” he said.
Comptroller Kolade said the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi condemned the unethical conduct of the officers and has directed that the officers be taken to the NCS Headquarters for a full-scale investigation and decisive disciplinary measures.
“In addition, the complainants are also requested to make themselves available to assist in the ongoing investigation, ” he said.
Kolade expressed the Service committment to ensuring transparency in all its operational mandates and hence, will not condone any form of misconduct within its ranks.
“As a Service, we will continue to work for the overall interest of the Nigerian Public, ” he said.
