The President of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies ( SSASCGOC) Maritime Branch, Comrade Akin Bodunde has extended his congratulations to the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria ( MWUN) led by its President General, Comrade Francis Bunu on the successful conduct of its 6th Quadrennial Branch Delegates Conference.
The conference, which included elections of new leadership in the Shipping, Dockworkers and Seafarers branches, took place in Lagos, Warri and Port Harcourt with the Nigerian Ports Authority ( NPA) branch scheduled to hold on Monday.
Speaking during a goodwill message delivered at the Seafarers branch election on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Bodunde praised the three branch elections as seamless and expressed confidence that the upcoming NPA election would be just as smooth.
He charged the incoming NPA branch leadership to learn from past mistakes and work collaboratively for the benefit of their members.
“So far the delegates conference has been peaceful with the first election held in Lagos. I was not at the second one in Warri and that was why I had to plan myself to attend the third one in Port Harcourt because it wouldn’t be fair to attend only the NPA branch where I belong to. So, I am here in solidarity to encourage them. We have been partnering and working together as a team, and I hope we continue to do that under the new leadership.”
He added, “By Monday, the NPA branch will be holding their own election. I have no doubt that It is going to be as peaceful as we have witnessed that of the three branches.
“We have had meetings together on the harmonization of groups and we have successfully carried that out. There won’t be any issue, but I will advise them,- don’t repeat past mistakes. We should work together as one team whether you are in the national or you are in the branch level. That has been their major problem and we have discussed it. I hope the new leadership will carry everybody along and work together as a team. ”
Bodunde also ccongratulated Comrade Sunday Avoshe on his re-election as President of the Seafarers branch, just as he called on members to give him their full support for his continued efforts.
