The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), under the leadership of Comptroller Frank Onyeka, has recorded a revenue milestone, generating over N1.45 trillion in the first eleven months of 2025.
This is just as the command secured two prestigious awards at the recently concluded Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Conference.
According to the command, the significance revenue performance was recorded despite the initial teething challenges that came with the transitioning from the NICIS II system to the new Unified Customs Management System, known as the B’Odogwu platform, reflecting Comptroller Onyeka’s known acumen for revenue generation.
A breakdown of the revenue profile shows the month of November 2025 alone saw the Command record its fourth highest monthly intake for the year, generating N135,210,533,902.89.
This figure significantly towers above the N120,196,625,585.37 generated during the corresponding period in November 2024.
In the area of anti-smuggling activities, the command recorded a major win against illicit trade in October, making several seizures of unCustoms goods. This included the recovery of illegal substances such as Cannabis indica, methamphetamine, and other hard drugs cleverly concealed in imported containers. The street value of these recovered narcotics is estimated at N5.304 billion.
The command under Comptroller Onyeka have also demonstrated operational efficiency by keying into crucial trade tools to facilitate trade including the Advance Ruling System and the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme.
The Command’s excellent work culminated in high praise at the recent Comptroller-General of Customs Conference, where it carted away two significant awards: Best in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Special Award in B’Odogwu.
These awards underscore the vital roles played by the Area Controller and his team, recognizing both their social contributions and their adept handling of the new technological platform.
A key element in the Tin Can Island Command’s success has been Comptroller Onyeka’s strategic decision to prioritize stakeholders engagement and partnership. This approach has led to the dismantling of operational bottlenecks and the streamlining of processing.
As noted by officers, the successful year, despite the transition hitches, was made possible by promoting compliance and making the command uninhabitable for illegitimate traders.
As year 2025 gradually winds down, it is clear that this foundation of vigour, compliance, and streamlined operations is set to ensure the continued realization of all the Command’s potential for greater national development.
