The Trucks Transit Parks (TTP) Limited has said that the electronic call-up system, popularly referred to as ETO has significantly improved port access in Lagos, leading to the cleareace of over 900,000 truck trips between January and November 2025.
Managing Director of TTP, Jama Onwubuariri who disclosed this during a round table meeting with the Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria ( SCAN) n Lagos of Friday, said the firm has carried out 170 upgrades to the ETO platform since inception in February 2021 without imposing any corresponding costs increment on users.
He disclosed while the company had invested between N3. 8 to N4. 2bn in setting up the electronic call-up system between 2021 till date it plans to invest in additional technologies to further streamline cargo movement process to the ports by 2026.
Onwubuariri noted that while future upgrades requiring significant investment may neccesitate additional cost, the company’s focus remains on value and efficiency.
He said, ” We’ve done over 170 upgrades to the ETO platform from February 2021 up to date. There was no cost increment that came with those upgrades, but we have invested in those upgrades.
“Additional investment requires additional cost in terms of the service. However, we are looking at value of the service, not just price.
I”A transporter who would spend two days to get to the port but if there’s something that can help him, he’ would rather spend two hours to get to the port. I want to believe that from a purely business perspective, he would be willing to pay a little extra for that. And now when you have 1,000 transporters who are contributing to the cost of that investment, the unit price of a transporter would reduce.
“So for some of the things that we plan to do that will require significant investmentt, additional increase may be necessary. But we will recover the cost from efficiency.
“For example the e- tag which we are seeking to do is going to ensure that we reduce personnel costs. So some of those things that require people to be helping the drivers, we withdraw those people and deploy them to other operations that generate money. So we are going to save on personnel costs.
“We are also going to save in terms of efficiency. We are going to be able to do our work faster. Now instead of us using 24 hours to process 2,000 trucks, we could use 24 hours to process 4,000 trucks.
“So the more trucks we process in a day, the more we are able to recover whatever investment has gone into making that faster. So that’s how we’re looking at it. ”
Responding to questions on the renewal of TTP’s operating license, Onwubuariri confirmed that TTP has completed all necessary requirements and submitted its renewal request to the Nigerian Ports Authority ( NPA).
“Everything that needs to be done on our part for the license renewal has been done. Our request for renewal has also been submitted.
“The feedback we get is that it’s under review. So it’s not in our hands. Our job is to make sure that those things that are in our contract to do, we’ve done that. So the next step is with NPA, ” he said.
On the plans for 2026, Mr Onwubuariri said:
“We are stepping up the system to ensure that new technologies are deployed to reduce human interference, currently we are investing in an Electronics Tagging System. We have also designed what is called an e-column Interchange Transaction Log and the YAD traffic management solution, among others to eliminate delays”.
He said these new technologies are aimed at seamless movement of trucks, guaranteeing cargo for the truckers and enhancing security.
Onwubuariri said the company is also liaising with the NPA and the Nigeria Customs Service to integrate ETO into the single window platform which the Federal Government plans to float next year.
He also disclosed that plans are in the pipeline to extend ETO to other states of the federation.
“On the infrastructure side, we are currently expanding to other states in Nigeria such as, Cross-River, Abia, Kaduna, Bauchi and Yobe states. These are states we are currently in talks with. We will deploy ETO both as a traffic management and also as an infrastructure management solution to them. So, by next year more development will unfold,” he stated.
Welcoming the TTP delegation to the SCAN Press Centre in Lagos, the President of SCAN, Mr. Moses Ebosele, said the facility remains open and accessible to all stakeholders.
Mr Ebosele urged the delegation—and the wider maritime and transport community—to take full advantage of the Press Centre, noting that “our doors remain open to all stakeholders within and outside Lagos.”
