Nearly 19 months after the Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS) opened its online registration portal for recruitment, the Service is yet to conclude the process, with thousands of applicants still awaiting the final outcome.
The recruitment exercise began on December 27, 2024, following Federal Government approval for the Service to fill 3,927 vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspector and Customs Assistant cadres.
According to the NCS, the exercise attracted 573,523 applications during the first phase, out of which 286,697 candidates were shortlisted to participate in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) conducted nationwide between September 14 and 21, 2025.
Despite the completion of the CBT and the NCS directing candidates who were successful in the earlier stages to update their profiles on its recruitment portal, the exercise is yet to be concluded leaving many applicants waiting for the final list of successful candidates.
As part of the process, the Service had in a statement on Wednesday May 6, 2026 announced that “In continuation of the selection process leading to the final stage of the 2025 Recruitment Exercise, candidates who were successful in the previous phases are required to visit the NCS Recruitment Portal to complete a designated form. The portal will close at 11:00 pm on Sunday, May 10, 2026.”
However, more than two months after the portal closed, the NCS is yet to release the final list of successful candidates or announced the completion of the recruitment exercise.
The prolonged process has continued to generate anxiety among applicants and created room for fake recruitment updates to circulate on social media.
On Thursday, the NCS again disowned a purported recruitment update making the rounds online, describing it as fake and stating that it did not originate from the Service.
The Customs in a notice on it’s X handle advised applicants and members of the public to ignore the false publication and rely only on information released through its official communication channels.
The NCS has not indicated when the final stage of the recruitment exercise will be concluded or when successful candidates will be announced.
