MWUN: Adeyanju hails peaceful conduct of Shipping Branch election

MWUN election: Adeyanju leads Bunu to pioneer PG, Ukaummuna, seeks blessings

The immediate past President General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria ( MWUN) Comrade Adewale Adeyanju has lauded the Union’s current leadership led by President General, Comrade Francis Bunu, for the peaceful conduct of the Shipping Branch election.

The Shipping Branch of the Union had on Monday elected a new President, Comrade Abass Oluyinka.

Oluyinka, formerly Vice President of the Branch takes over from Comrade Ekpeyong Ekpeyong who served two four- year tenures.

Adeyanju, in a statement praised Bunu for upholding the union’s integrity, noting the orderliness of the election.

The election process held at MWUN national secretariat was conducted and concluded in a peaceful atmosphere, devoid of any commotion.

Adeyanju, who is also the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Vice Chairman Global, International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) says he has no regrets and doubt on the choice, abilities and capabilities of the current PG of the Union, stressing that Comrade Bunu was the right candidate to have taken over the reigns of leadership of the Union.

Adeyanju praised industry stakeholders for their cooperation and support for the new PG.

He also commended members and staff of the Union and appealed that they should exercise patient with the new PG, assuring that Comrade Bunu’s good intentions for the Union will begin to manifest in no distance time.

Adeyanju also admonished the newly elected executives of the Shipping branch to be tolerant with one another, work together with one mind, peace and accord to achieve desired results for the branch and for the general wellbeing of the Union.

According to him, trust and loyalty is the key towards achieving success and progress.

He charged the new executives to aim for the better in their first tenure and wished them success in all their endeavors.

Adeyanju expressed confidence that the new Shipping Branch President, Comrade Abass, whom he described as a committed, discipline and loyal member of the labour union will not let the Union down.
