The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has confirmed the appointment of Comrade Oniha Erazua as the substantive Secretary-General of the Union.
The announcement was made during a joint session of the National Administrative Committee (NAC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC) on Friday.
Comrade Oniha, who had been serving in an acting capacity for six months succeeds Comrade Felix Akingboye, who recently retired.
Comrade Oniha moved up through the ranks from Assistant Secretary-General to Deputy Secretary-General, where he combined the portfolios of Training & Research, Education, and Media. Oniha holds a Master’s degree from the University of Ibadan and previously worked as a tutor before joining the union.
The union also confirmed the appointment of Olangwe Fred Dagogo, formerly Organising Secretary; a position he held diligenty for the maximum period before his promotion as General Secretary of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch of the Union.
Comrade Dagogo is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Portharcourt.
Comrade Joseph Ekwere appointment was also confirmed as General Secretary of the Nigeria Ports Authority ( NPA) Branch of the Union.
He rose from the position of Computer Secretary, a position he held diligenty for the maximum period under the Seamen & Water Transport Branch before his present designation. Ekwere holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Lagos.
According to a press release by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media for MWUN, all three appointees have been congratulated by the union.
