The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Lagos Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) Command, said it generated N408.8 billion in revenue between January and June 2026, representing a 28.85 per cent increase over the N317.3 billion collected during the corresponding period in 2025.

Speaking during the command’s 2026 half-year media briefing, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Hauwa Abubakar, said the revenue grew by N91.54 billion, attributing the performance to deliberate efforts to strengthen compliance, improve operational efficiency and deepen stakeholder engagement.

She described the achievement as the result of strategic initiatives rather than chance, noting that sustained engagement with stakeholders has helped build trust and encourage voluntary compliance with extant customs laws and regulations.

According to Abubakar, continuous dialogue, education and collaboration have created an enabling environment for legitimate trade to thrive while ensuring adequate protection of government revenue.

She also credited the officers and men of the command for their professionalism, integrity and dedication, saying their commitment had strengthened the confidence of the trading community in the operations of the Nigeria Customs Service.

The CAC said the revenue performance reflected the command’s growing capacity and the increasing confidence of investors and other stakeholders operating within the Free Trade Zones under its jurisdiction, including the Lekki Deep Seaport.

Abubakar commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his visionary leadership and support, which she said had contributed to the command’s achievements.

She also praised sister security and regulatory agencies for their cooperation in enhancing security and facilitating legitimate trade, while appreciating investors, licensed customs agents, importers, exporters and other members of the business community for their continued partnership.

“The synergy among our various agencies has continued to enhance security and facilitate legitimate trade in line with the Federal Government’s economic objectives. Your partnership has been instrumental to the command’s success, and I encourage you to sustain this commendable disposition,” she said.

Looking ahead to the second half of the year, Abubakar said the command would consolidate on its achievements, improve service delivery and surpass its performance targets without compromising its statutory responsibilities.

She added that the LFTZ Command has become a model for trade facilitation within the Nigeria Customs Service, with its commitment to efficient trade processes, operational excellence, and enhancing the ease of doing business, positioning itself as one of the Service’s leading revenue-generating commands.
