The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has called for increased operational support from the Nigerian Navy, particularly in the Eastern Zone, as part of efforts to strengthen port security, improve trade facilitation and enhance the competitiveness of Nigeria’s seaports.
The Managing Director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, made the call on Tuesday while receiving the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, during a courtesy visit to the Authority’s headquarters in Marina, Lagos.
Dantsoho commended the longstanding partnership between the NPA and the Nigerian Navy, describing the collaboration as critical in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain and enabling efficient port operations.
He emphasized the importance of sustained inter -agency cooperation to strengthen the nation’s port security architecture while facilitating seamless trade and improving the ease of doing business.
The NPA boss specifically appealed for increased operational support in the Eastern Zone, expressing confidence that stronger synergy between both organisations would further enhance maritime security and contribute to national economic growth.
Earlier, Rear Admiral Mustapha said the visit was to formally introduce himself as the new Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, and to further consolidate on the existing partnership between the Nigerian Navy and the NPA.
He conveyed the appreciation of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, for the Authority’s strategic role in supporting national economic growth and advancing the Blue Economy, describing the NPA as a critical stakeholder in maritime security and efficient port operations.
The FOC commended the Managing Director for his innovative leadership in driving port efficiency and reform, and highlighted the Nigerian Navy’s sustained efforts to enhance maritime security through the Falcon Eye Maritime Surveillance System, the Regional Maritime Awareness Capability (RMAC) and other deployments aimed at curbing maritime crimes and ensure safer shipping lanes.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to deepen collaboration with the NPA in support of secure and seamless trade facilitation.
