The Managing Director/ CEO of NLNG Ship Management Limited (NSML), Mr. Abdul-Kadir Ahmed on Thursday paid a working visit to the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) with a commitment to further improve the welfare of seafarers’ in the company’s employ.
President General of the Union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju and some of his national and branch executives received the NSML Managing Director and his team, a statement by the Head, Media of MWUN, John Kennedy Ikemefuna said.
According to the statement, a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which provides for an increase in wages of seafarers will soon commence.
He said, “The visit which was a courtesy call is aimed at congratulating Comrade Adeyanju, who was recently voted unopposed as the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at Abuja.
“The visit was also geared to further strengthen the already existing good ties between NSML and the union; more especially in the areas of the union’s members, who are seafarers in the employ of the NSML with very obvious cognisance to their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will commence soon.”
He said Comrade Adeyanju who was highly impressed with the NSML management visit had real time to relate issues of utmost importance on both parties to the NSML team.
“Both parties had agreed to keep the good relationship they have had since inception and promised each other of total transparency and mutual cooperation in all fronts towards striking a balanced success in the maritime sector and most pertinently the welfare of the seafarers and the Union in general,” he said.
While speaking, Comrade Adeyanju said that the NSML boss and his team visit to the union had shown that he’s indeed a grassroots administrator of repute who has immensely transformed the NSML to standard.
In his response, the NSML MD reiterated that he will continue to come to the table with issues of mutual benefits that will befit the Union at all times and its seafarers in the NSML workforce.
