The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has declared its participation in the Nigeria Labour Congress 2-day nationwide protest scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The decision follows the directive from the NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC) after their meeting on February 26, 2024.
According to a statement signed by MWUN Head of Media, John Ikemefuna, the protest is a collective response to the refusal by the Federal Government to honour the agreement signed with the Congress on October 2, 2023.
The agreement, which remains unimplemented, was expected to address various challenges faced by Nigerian workers and citizens.
The NLC believes that the implementation of the agreement could have alleviated the sufferings caused by ‘ill- conrceived policies’ that have negatively impacted workers and the general population.
As an affiliate of the NLC, MWUN under the leadership of Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, said it would in totality comply with the NLC directive.
