The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has announced the dissolution of the National Executive Committee (NECOM) formerly led by Dr. Kayode Farinto thus putting an end to the leadership tussle that has rocked the association for over one year.
The Board also announced the appointment of the immediate past National Secretary, Babatunde Mukaila as Director General/ Sole Administrator to run the affairs of the association for the next three months.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Board, Alh. Taiwo Mustapha, on Thursday, the decision by the board to dissolve the NECOM is to stem the tide of chaos currently threatening the fragile peace in the association.
Mustapha also announced that the BoT will now take over the running of the Association for the next three months in line with the association’s constitution adding that a meeting of the Association Electoral Committee (ASECO) would be conveyed to structure out the necessary adjustments that may be made to quickly conduct the NECOM elections.
According to him, Mukaila would run the association on behalf of the Board and he is to be assisted by Dr Ifeayin Asogwa.
The statement reads, “In view of the current developments in our great Association, the Board of Trustees needs to urgently take the following steps, to stem the tide of chaos threatening to further derail the fragile peace in the Association.
The following changes are hereby announced:
“The National Executive Committee (NECOM) is hereby DISSOLVED, and The BoT will be taking over the running of the Association for next three months pursant to section 13, Sub 4 (c) of the supreme Constitution of ANLCA.
“The Board of Trustees will immediately call a meeting of all ASECO members to structure out the necessary adjustments that may be made to quickly conduct the NECOM election. And the general members of Association shall be briefed on the new time table.
“In addition to this, as constitutional custodians of ANLCA properties, assets and liabilities as enshrined in Section 13, Sub 4 (a), the National Secretariat will remain OPEN and accessible to all law-abiding members. And on this note, the BoT announces the appointment of immediate past National Secretary (Mr Mukaila Babatunde Abdazeez) as Director General/Sole Administrator to act as representative of the BoT to run the secretariat on its behalf. He is to be assisted by Dr Ifeayin Asogwa.
“Finally, The BoT appreciates Dr Kayode Farinto for holding the association in acting capacity in place of former president Tony Iju; and therefore, solicits the understanding and cooperation of all members of ANLCA, in order to once and for all bring our association back from the brink.”
