The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS),Adewale Adeniyi on the six-month tenure extension granted to him by President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the association’s Vice President Prince Segun Oduntan, ANLCA described the tenure extension as a testament to the confidence reposed in the Customs boss by the President and a recognition of the unprecedented transformation witnessed in the Service since his appointment in June 2023.

According to the association, Adeniyi brought an operational revolution to the Nigeria Customs Service and the maritime trade sector through reforms anchored on consolidation, collaboration and innovation, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.

ANLCA noted that under Adeniyi’s leadership, the Service has recorded remarkable achievements in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and trade facilitation, while fostering robust synergy with stakeholders, including the freight forwarding community across the maritime industry.

The association particularly commended the implementation of modernization initiatives and trade facilitation tools that have significantly improved operational efficiency, noting that compliant traders can now clear their consignments in less than 24 hours.

“The tenure extension is well deserved and will enable the Comptroller-General to consolidate the gains already recorded and complete ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Customs Service as a world-class institution,” the statement stated.

Oduntan added that the Service’s stakeholder engagement strategy has strengthened collaboration between Customs and industry operators, resulting in improved compliance and enhanced trade facilitation.

ANLCA therefore called on the Federal government to continue supporting the modernization and digital transformation programmes of the Nigeria Customs Service to ensure the full realization of their benefits.

The association also urged that the reforms be fully institutionalised to ensure long time sustainability and prevent erosion over time.

The ANLCA Vice President expressed optimism that with sustained support from the government and stakeholders, the Customs Service would continue to build on its achievements and make even greater contribution to the nation’s economic growth and development.

Adeniyi’s current tenure was due to expire on August 1, 2026. The six month extension will now keep him in office untill February 2027.
