In his acceptance speech, Engr. Obadan, while acknowledging the effort and support of those he described as legacy members of the association promised to work with other members of the newly elected executives to move the association to greater heights.

He also promised to increase the visibility of the association by creating membership awareness to encourage younger professionals to come on board.

While soliciting for members full cooperation, Obadan said this is the time for members of the association to redouble their efforts to ensure AMES is more relevant in the industry.

Speaking, he said, “With this recognition thrusted upon us, you have only spurred us on to move the AMES to greater heights.

“We solicit your full cooperation in way of intellectual, moral, and financial support without which, we may not be able to go it alone.

“In the immediate, AMES shall continue to participate in relevant activities appropriate for our image. Visibility shall be our focus. If we don’t blow our trumpet, no one will do it for us.

“My presidency shall immediately concentrate on the following: Move to rent or own a secretariat fit for AMES, communication with national and international members and further direct membership awareness drive-encouraging younger professionals to come on board.”

Obadan assured that his administration will also adopt and carry out its operation in line with the association’s constitution just as he promised to keep reaching out to maritime establishments and re-emphasizing the role of AMES in the growth of the maritime industry.

He added, “I will also ensure modalities for financial contributions to drive the association and Comprehensive listing and reach-out to AMES members.”

In his valedictory speech, immediate past President of the association, Engr. Okunade urged the new executives to sustain the tempo of work initiated by the outgoing administration especially on the need to expand the association’s spread to other states outside Lagos to further drive membership.

He recalled some of the achievements recorded during his tenure despite the disruption in economic activities occasioned by the COVID- 19 pandemic to include the review of the association’s constitution, renewal of AMES registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a charity organization among others.

“Before the expiration of the previous executives the membership list was cleaned up. We have more than 200 on the list but the previous executive decided to clean up the list to contain only financial members. This reduced us to only 23 members. So, we inherited only 23 members. Obviously, we need to enlarge our membership not only for financial purposes but also for the spread and awareness of AMES. For this reason, we have introduced additional levels of membership in our reviewed constitution,” he said.

Okunade thanked members of the association for their cooperation and support towards the achievements recorded during his tenure just as he urged them to extend better cooperation to the incoming administration.

Meanwhile, the association has appointed Okunade as an ex- officio member just as it said it will announce a date the new executives will be inaugurated and unveiled to the industry.
