NPA achieves 90% completion of Port Community System, FEC approval expected in weeks- Dantsoho

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has announced that the Port Community System (PCS) has achieved 90% completion.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in Lagos on Thursday, Dantsoho said that the digital platform is now awaiting final approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC), with full implementation expected to commence within the coming weeks.

The PCS is a digital platform designed to integrate all maritime stakeholders—including customs agencies, port management, shipping lines, and freight forwarders—into a single, secure, and standardized information-sharing environment.

By streamlining data exchange, the system aims to eliminate administrative red tape, reduce paperwork, and accelerate decision-making processes across Nigeria’s ports.

Speaking, Dantsoho said, “I am happy to report that under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, we have reached the 90% mark of the PCS. We are currently awaiting FEC approval, and we expect the proper implementation of this policy to begin in a matter of weeks.”

The NPA MD said once secured, the implementation phase will ensure the nation’s port industry remains globally competitive.

He acknowledged that the PCS should serve as a precursor to the National Single Window (NSW), which went live on March 27 but assured that once final approval is secured, the PCS implementation phase will commence.

“On the issue of the National Single Window, the success of that project could be noticed from when the Go Live was launched on the 27th of March. And I’m happy that stakeholders have recognized the importance of that towards achieving more efficiency in the way that businesses are done, not only within the port industry, but generally in Nigeria.

“Now, the precursor to the National Single Window, like it was pointed out, is the Port Community System that has to be established by the Nigerian ports industry. So like I said earlier, the Port Community System is going to happen very soon, most likely in the next few weeks.Once it gets the final approval, then the execution will be on course, ” he assured.

He reiterated NPA’s commitment to the complete modernization of Nigeria’s port infrastructure to ensure the nation’s port industry remains globally competitive.

Meanwhile, the NPA boss has commended the Federal Government for maintaining energy stability despite global disruptions caused by the U.S.–Iran conflict.

He noted that while many nations face fuel shortages, Nigeria has leveraged its improved port efficiency to support the region.

“In the last month, Nigeria has exported up to 500,000 metric tonnes of petroleum products to other African countries via ship.

“This achievement is a direct result of policies approved by the Honourable Minister, specifically the One-Stop Shop (OSS) initiative, which has optimized our cargo and vessel operations, “Dantsoho said.
