No fewer than 15 people were confirmed dead in a boat accident in the Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Tuesday.
The local government’s Chairman, Aliyu Shagari, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday said the boat was carrying 25 people to Mauludi when it capsized.
He was however silent on the fate of the remaining 10 passengers.
Cases of boat accident have been recurring in Shagari region lately.
Recently, the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, had in a condolence visit during another boat accident in the local government, promised to provide live jackets that will help prevent drowning in the event of such accident.
The incident occurred just two weeks after more than 40 passengers died in a similar incident in Anambra State.
