The President General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, has described the death of Comrade Adeleke Sanni, former President, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) branch of the union as unfortunate and a great loss to the labour union.
Adeyanju, described Adeleke as a ‘unionist to the core’ who contributed greatly to the success of the Maritime workers union.
“Sanni is very dear to me. He is a unionist to the core, a great man that carried out his assignment with diligence. He is one of the best advisers I have in the union. I will personally miss him because we have been together for more than 20 years.
“He was with us on Thursday and he attended the stakeholders’ security meeting organized by NPA at KLT. There was no complaint of any ailment from him,” he said.
The MWUN boss said Adeleke slumped and died after he made a cash withdrawal from an ATM while on his way to Church in Lagos on Sunday.
“The wife confirmed to me that they were on their way to the church and he wanted to pick money from the ATM but on his way back to the car, he just slumped and before they could get to the hospital he gave up the ghost,” Adeyanju said.
Adeleke, was until his death, the special adviser on labour matters to the MWUN boss.
