MWUN election: NPA Branch President, Mazeli withdraws from President General’s race

President of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Branch of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Ifeanyi Mazeli has withdrawn from the President General’s race in the forthcoming MWUN election.

Mazeli was one of the aspirants contesting against incumbent Deputy President General, Comrade Francis Bunu for the top position in the MWUN election, scheduled for March 28, 2025.

Mazeli’s withdrawal comes barely three days after the Dockworkers and Seafarers branches’ unanimous endorsement of Comrade Bunu as their preferred candidate for the President General position.

Sources within the union informed Maritime Today Online that Mazeli announced his decision to step down at a meeting with national officers at the union’s secretariat in Lagos on Wednesday.

Efforts to reach Mazeli for comment were unsuccessful as calls and messages sent to his phone went unresponded to as of press time.

With this development, coupled with the endorsement of the Dockworkers, Seafarers, and NPA branches, chances are high for Comrade Bunu to potentially secure the President General position.

As the election draws near, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how events unfold.
