The Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) has restated its commitment to support their husbands in carrying out their constitutional mandate of securing the nation’s maritime environment.
The National President of the association, Hajia Nana- Aisha Gambo gave the commitment in Lagos on Saturday during a Beach Fair organized for senior officers’ wives as part of activities to mark the 2023 Presidential Fleet review.
Hajia Gambo who is also the wife of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo said as wives of senior naval officers, they have a significant role to play in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere at home to enable their husbands give their best in service.
“As wives of senior Navy officers, there is no doubt that we play a significant role because every wife of a military officer knows that she must give her husband peace.
“The nature of their work is already strenuous, so we have to ensure that when they get back there is an appreciable degree of peace at home. It is the role of the wife to build an ambience of peace and love at the home. This peace at home helps fuel the men with courage and tenacity to carry out their tasks as officers. So, to this, we pledge to continue to give them our support,” she said.
Hajia Gambo said the idea behind the Beach Fair which also includes boat rides is to provide an avenue for the women to exercise and unwind.
She said, “It is the men that are having the programme but we felt the women shouldn’t just stay at home. So, we decided to come out to have fun and enjoy ourselves. That’s the idea behind this Beach Fair we are having today.”
Speaking on the Presidential Fleet Review, Hajia Gambo said it is being held in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari adding that the review will afford the President the opportunity to inspect the assets of the navy and its preparedness to defend the nation’s maritime domain.
President, Defense and Police Officers Wives Association, Mrs Vicky Irabor, said she had an enjoyable experience at the Beach Fair with NOWA women.
She said, “NOWA is part of our association and I have come to be with NOWA women today.
“It has been a very enjoyable experience. “This is one of the ways to give men our support. As the men are going about the special activities to mark the Presidential Fleet Review for 2023, we are giving them our support. I have particularly enjoyed the NOWA activity today as we had a boat ride, interesting dance sessions and lots of refreshments.”
